About Me

Gastronomy:
study of the relationship between culture and food

I grew up amidst goat farms and cornfields...yes, you guessed it-Indiana! Ah, the Great MIDWEST. No, I am not a great representation of a small-town Midwestern girl. I am a bit of a foodie, and I don't just mean stick a pound of butter in anything and call it a day (although let's be honest, that is delicious).

I graduated from the University of Virginia, and Charlottesville is truly where food made an impression on me. Whether it was at Bang!, Mas, Cafe Cubano, I absolutely fell in love with great food.

I realized a meal isn't meant to be eaten, but rather to be enjoyed and experienced.

Let's skip four years to post-college. I am living in DC. Even better food, and EVEN better company to share my food with every Sunday night. My dear friends, Pierce and Ariel, are perhaps some of the best young cooks I know. Ariel's dad is a chef, and she truly brought an enormous amount of inspiration for me in the kitchen. Don't worry, she will be a guest blogger, and I cannot wait for you to meet her!

I fell in love with DC. I love the excitement, the passion, and the people. No one stands around waiting for someone else to get something done. I don't care what your political affiliations are, but DC is truly all about CHANGE, and I love that. It has become my mission. It may be a small change, or it may be an extraordinary change for humanity, but I am going to have a wonderful time doing it, and I invite you to share my journey.

Because I have come to love food, other cultures, wonderful people, I knew there had to be a way to put it all together. And voilĂ , this blog was created. I want to show that food has a funny way of bringing people together in every culture, whether the abundance or lack thereof. Sure, there will be some very yummy recipes, but there will also be profiles of some fantastic organizations I have come to admire due to their work in alleviating hunger throughout the world. There will also be creative ways to connect with people through food, and I hope we can all start making a difference.

The funny thing about thinking externally and globally is that, well, the more you learn, the more you are inspired, and the more you DO.

I am excited to connect with each and every one of you!

Thank you for reading,

Lindsay
